The Indiana University Athletics Program is committed and designed to fostering excellence in intercollegiate athletics competition and maximizing the student educational experience. The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics will provide leadership to, and be accountable for, the overall planning, organizing, directing and operating of the intercollegiate athletics program located on the Bloomington campus. This program is an integral part of the Indiana University Bloomington campus and the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics must work cooperatively and collaborative with all University offices.

Duties and Responsibilities
Indiana University Intercollegiate Athletics Program located on the Bloomington campus,
Provides general leadership and direction for the coaches, players, and support staff in the men’s and women’s programs engaged in both national and international competition.
Develops and establishes objectives, goals, and major policies for the IU Intercollegiate Athletics Program on the Bloomington campus.
Understands and endorses the primacy of the academic mission of IU to provide an excellent education to IU students, and consequently has a strong record of student athletic graduation and helping students succeed in life.
Consults regularly with faculty council committees, the Athletics Committee, the Faculty Athletics Representative, and other concerned administrators on athletics policies and programs, and provides timely and accurate information to them as necessary, and helps build understanding and consensus.
Represents the University, along with the Faculty Athletics Representative to the Big Ten Conference, the NCAA, and other recognized athletic organizations as directed by the President.
Provides supervision for all coaches, athletics, and all of the administrative staff departments.
Acts as spokesperson for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics on policy matters pertaining to news releases, schedules, special events, personnel, finance, and budgetary concerns.
Prepares the departmental budget for review and approval by the President and/or the appropriate designees; maintains sound fiscal policies to ensure the financial integrity of the department. Oversees outside income of coaches and other Athletics Department personnel.
Provides for effective communications with in-house administrators, coaches, athletes, and support staff and maintains appropriate positive public relations with the faculties, staffs, students, alumni, and the local state and national communities.
In conjunction with the appropriate University officers and advisory committees, the University Director of Intercollegiate Athletics will be responsible for formulating and implementing policies related to scheduling; facility development and use; fund raising for Athletic Department support; logos and insignia, including sponsorships and advertising; radio and television contracts, NCAA and other governing bodies compliance and legislation; and gender and racial equity compliance, including requirements of Title IX.
Exhibits and demonstrates a deep commitment to compliance with NCAA regulations and ensures through established policies and procedures, compliance with the rules and regulations of the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference, and other governing bodies to assure compliance.
Recruits, selects, and administers all changes of status for head coaches.
Manages schedules, fiscal policies, ticket policies, and other business matters in all phases of the athletics operation in consultation, where appropriate, with the Athletics Committee.
Oversees marketing functions within the Athletics Department, including the development and implementation of advertising and promotional activities designed to heighten interest in IU athletic programs and products in a manner consistent with the Office of the Vice President for Communications and Marketing, applicable university policies and institutional values.
Makes athletics responsive, accessible, and inviting to students, faculty, alumni, and the entire University and community by promoting a wide range of programs and special events.
Provides creative leadership for the IU Varsity Club and its staff and programs and is an active participants in development.
Establishes and maintains a good working environment for coaches and the staff; promotes effective human relationships; and supports individuals in satisfying their personal needs for professional development.
