California State University, Sacramento is seeking applications for a visionary leader to serve as the Director of the Doctorate in Educational Leadership program. The Doctorate in Educational Leadership program is a joint program between the College of Education and the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies and is housed in the College of Education. The program’s mission is to prepare transformative leaders who will serve as administrators, superintendents for Pre-K-12 schools through community college and institutions of higher education. The program's curriculum and instruction combines knowledge, skills, theory, and practice. Three key curricular themes provide the focus for all coursework: (1) Transformational Leadership, (2) Critical Policy Analysis and Action, and (3) Informed Decision-Making. This innovative weekend and evening program allows students to complete their degree in nine semesters over three years.
The Director of the Doctorate in Educational Leadership program promotes, maintains, and develops program curriculum, supervises office staff, supports faculty engagement, and has general oversight and management of program-related activities (e.g. recruitment of students and faculty, curriculum review and development, assessment and accreditation, admissions, qualifying exams, and dissertation supervision). The Director provides leadership for the program; promotes a vision of rigor and excellence; oversees the instructional, research/scholarship, and service contributions to the institution and greater community; and maintains and develops partnerships with local schools, community colleges, and community-based and government-related programs.
The Director is responsible for: (a) providing leadership across all aspects of the program; (b) maintaining an active research agenda; ( c) promoting student recruitment and retention; (d) supporting faculty recruitment, retention, and professional development; (e) developing and monitoring program budget; (f) securing external funding for the program where appropriate; (g) teaching weekend courses, chairing doctoral dissertations, and advising doctoral students. The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Education and works closely with the Dean of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies.
A doctoral degree in educational leadership, educational policy, educational administration, or a related field.
Evidence of successful teaching, advising, and/or chairing theses and dissertations at the graduate level, particularly at the doctoral level.
An understanding of educational reform, research-based initiatives, and policy within preschool through community college.
A record of substantial scholarship and publications in the areas of educational leadership and/or educational policy and administration.
A commitment to and strong record of building a diverse, social justice, equitable, and inclusive learning community and an understanding of the relationship between diversity, academic excellence, and our mission as a public 4-year University.
Administrative experience in education.
Eligible for appointment to the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
Demonstrated excellence in management, leadership, and interpersonal communication skills.
Successful experience in academic program development, policy development, program growth, and evaluation, including experience working with accrediting agencies.
A proven track record in developing effective preschool through community college partnerships.
Successful track record in recruitment and retention of students at the post-secondary level.
Administrative experience that includes staff/faculty supervision, policy implementation, and budget oversight.
This is a full-time, 12-month faculty assignment at the Associate or Full professor rank. Rank, considerations of tenure, and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and professional experience. The successful candidate will receive an appointment in the College of Education's Graduate and Professional Studies/Educational Leadership Program. The anticipated starting date is July 1, 2020, but a later starting date is negotiable provided it is no later than August 1, 2020
