Stanford University's Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center (APARC), part of the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI), seeks a talented individual to serve as Communications Manager responsible for implementing content strategies that promote the research, initiatives and expertise of APARC scholars. APARC, Stanford's hub for the interdisciplinary study of contemporary Asia, addresses critical issues affecting the countries of Asia, their regional and global affairs and U.S.-Asia relations. The Center produces policy-relevant research, provides education and training to students, scholars and practitioners, and strengthens dialogue and cooperation between counterparts in the Asia-Pacific and the United States. APARC encompasses six regional and thematic programs that advance its research agenda and support its mission. The Center and its programs are a gathering place for leaders from academia, business, government and the social sector, as well as for community members to examine timely, policy-relevant topics that shape contemporary Asia and are of mutual importance to the United States and Asian nations.
Reporting to the Center's Associate Director for Communications and External Relations, the Communications Manager will elevate APARC's profile as a leading Asia research and education hub. Core responsibilities include writing and producing editorial content for print and digital formats such as news stories and press releases, social media posts, and audio/video clips and interviews; providing editing and message development support to program staff; maintaining the Center's website and providing editorial guidance to staff in managing their program websites; curating and producing the Center's e-newsletters; managing and growing the Center's social media channels; assisting with donor and other correspondence; working collaboratively with communications officers at FSI; and assisting in developing relationships with communications and marketing professionals across campus and beyond.
The ideal candidate is a strong writer who is able to make academic research accessible and inspiring, has a passion for engaging target audiences through a combination of analytics and compelling content, is enthusiastic about new storytelling techniques and comfortable working with various communications platforms.
JOB PURPOSE: Under minimal supervision, provide support in planning, coordinating, and implementing communication programs. Develop external written communications and design and coordinate media relations programs and eorts.
Develop, execute and oversee written communications of moderate complexity, including presentations, speeches, news stories, web content, talking points, and correspondence and social media posts.
Participate in regular meetings of key researchers with media relations needs to develop strategies and tactics for facilitating eective communications.
Assist in identifying and maintaining professional relationships with key press and community leaders.
Assist in preparing content for internal or external newsletters. Understand email and digital content distribution.
Identify individuals/groups to attend and/or speak at public meetings or other events.
Coordinate media, community or government relations, and ensure logistics and preparations are handled.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Master's degree preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent written communication skills, reporting skills, and skills in conceptual editing, copy editing, and proof reading.
Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with a variety of people.
Capacity to write and synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood.
