Job Purpose The role holder is responsible for:
Supporting bank's business agenda in GBA, by building and maintaining the Bank's relations and enhancing the bank's communications with government agencies, think tanks and other important external stakeholders in GBA. Acting as a catalyst, stimulating "trusted" relationships between the Bank and public sector stakeholders, ensuring the Bank's needs are satisfied and that views are shared with these stakeholders supporting the Bank's engagement of government and key external influencers in GBA so as to promote our bank's thought leadership in government's policy-making. connecting the Bank in China with the rest of the Bank's network covering the PA interests of the Bank, including inbound and outbound visitors of strategic importance to the Group
implementing a strategic public affairs agenda covering GBA, ensuring this is aligned to China's priorities, the Group Public Affairs strategy, and the Corporate Affairs Collective Agenda
Develop and secure agreement to a strategic public affairs agenda for GBA which is aligned to China's strategic priorities, the Group Public Affairs strategy and the Corporate Affairs Strategic Intent
Deliver advovacy strategies on specific streams of public policy engagement with focus on GBA related policies that impact business operations both short and long term Support the bank key stakeholders in GBA in configuring and engaging on public affairs and governmental policies Take the lead in preparing the Government and Regulatory Relations Plan for GBA, in partnership with Regional General Manager, Compliance, Head of the CEO office, and the GBA office. Provide Secretariat support for the GBA Government and Regulatory Relations Forum. Proactively form relationships and influence regulators/government-related organisations within China to ensure the Bank's interests are represented Deliver timely and high quality reporting and intelligence on politics and policy change to senior country management and the Bank's Public Affairs community Leverage China's participation in key international groups such as the G20 and APEC to raise the Bank's profile Identify and coordinate opportunities for senior management to act as "trusted counsel" to government and other actors on key policy issues Coordinate key political platforms for senior management in China/Greater China/Group/GBA to raise the Bank's profile with political stakeholders Track and leverage inward and outbound political stakeholders moving between China and key markets across the Bank Collaborate with colleagues across CABM to ensure continuous collaboration and improvement in the function
Our Ideal Candidate
Significant experience of Public Affairs in China, in particular government and regulatory issues pertinent to banking and financial services
Understanding of Stamdard Chartered's wholesale and retail banking, including key products, key roles and strategic agendas
Understanding of key public policies and regulations in China
Ability to create a strategic public affairs agenda (including advocacy strategies) with success measures
Understanding and practical experience of coordinating opportunities for senior management to engage with government and key political actors
Knowledge of the latest intelligence on politics and policy change as well as the impact of that to the Bank
Strong capabilities to learn and grasp essential knowledge in key areas ranging from business to policy
Uses knowledge, communication and relationship skills to positively influence key decisions
Excellent networking skills
Forms effective relationships with key internal stakeholders across the Bank
Ability to work effectively with senior leaders in the Bank
