Serve as the representative of the state association to the Legislature and State Government. Lead the advocacy and legislative affairs efforts of the state association. Provide support for the Board of Directors. Support the implementation of the Strategic Plan adopted by the Board of Directors by working with the Executive Committee to manage and monitor key goals.
ABC of Texas represents the eight chapters of the Associated Builders and Contractors located throughout the state, with a combined membership of over 1,800 member companies. The specific mission of the State Association is to represent members in affecting state legislation and other governmental affairs favorable to free enterprise principles and the Merit Shop Philosophy. The broad mission of the Associated Builders and Contractors is to help members develop people, win work and deliver that work safely, ethically and profitably for the betterment of the communities in which ABC and its members work.
The President shall serve in Austin and focus on working with the Legislature, elected state leadership, and key agencies to support ABC objectives. The position reports to the Board of Directors via the Executive Committee. The President is the Chief Operating Officer of ABC of Texas in carrying out all policies and affairs of the association, as directed by the Chair.

Participate in their legislative events
Provide recommendations for grassroots activities
Assist with coordination with elected officials
Assist with events as needed to promote the state association’s PAC.
Support of Board of Directors
Establish relationships with key elected officials and regulators
Build relationships and coalitions with other business associations
Coordinate and provide direction for comprehensive legislative effort
Attend meetings with legislative and regulatory bodies
Arrange for and schedule member testimony for committees
Oversee activities of and coordinate with contract lobbyist
Register as a lobbyist and fulfill all associated administrative requirements
Manage the association PAC, including all accounting, regulatory, and other administrative requirements.
Work with Legislative Review Task Force to develop Association positions
Arrange and manage biennial Legislative Day Activities
Coordinate advocacy with outside lobbyist
Work with outside lobbyist to make PAC recommendations to the Board
Monitor & maintain relationships with key regulatory agencies
Support preparation of the Texas Merit Shop Journal
Arrange Board meetings including scheduling and logistics
Coordinate Strategic Plan creation and tracking of goals
Financial Management, to include Quickbooks management and direction of outside accounting firm.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in government affairs
Association management experience is preferred
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Legislative experience is preferred
