IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Vice President of Member Services
General Statement of Duties:
Coordinate the youth programs for the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives (AIEC) and its member-cooperatives. Assist with coordinating the national branding/identity campaign on behalf of the AIEC, its member-cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). Assist in dissemination of marketing/communications programs and projects concerning the electric cooperatives and the AIEC. Assist in planning and facilitating on and off-site details for various meetings each year. Understand wise energy use and provide energy services and education to member-cooperative employees. Provide support services to other departments and AIEC personnel.
Responsibilities and Authorities:
Coordinate and oversee week-long Youth to Washington Tour in June for 80-100 students, making tour, transportation and meal arrangements, brochure development, chaperone selection and ongoing communication with students, chaperones, high school guidance counselors and parents.
Facilitate one-day Youth Day at the Capitol program (in Springfield) for 250+, including booking Capitol space and arranging visits with legislative and Congressional leaders, making tour, transportation and meal arrangements, developing the event brochure and coordinating judges for determining Youth to Washington program participation.
Assist with coordinating and promoting the national branding/identity campaign on behalf of the AIEC, its member-cooperatives and the NRECA. Could include representation on national committees or boards.
Assist in preparation of various internal informational materials and projects for the AIEC and marketing materials for member-cooperatives.
Coordinate meeting and conference planning and logistics.
Assist in dissemination of news releases, photographs and other informational materials for the AIEC and its member-cooperatives.
Understand and be able to communicate electric demand response/load management and alternative generation information.
Stay current with energy rebate, grant or loan programs available to member-cooperatives and their consumer-members.
Provide varied program updates to AIEC board of directors and member-cooperative CEOs/boards/employees.
Perform other marketing/communications-related functions at the direction of the Vice President of Member Services and the President/CEO.
No specific staff shall report to the Member Services Manager however, Member Services Manager will need to recruit and/or oversee volunteers from the AIEC staff, member-cooperatives and interns to meet goals and objectives.
INTERNAL–Frequent interaction with personnel in Legal & Government Relations, Communications and Graphic Services Divisions; occasional interaction with all departments.
EXTERNAL–Frequent contact with member-cooperative personnel and members, high school guidance counselors, students and their parents, elected officials, convention bureau representatives and NRECA personnel.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Ability to interact with and relate to high school-age students
Willingness to travel by automobile, bus and plane
Proficiency in event planning
Ability to communicate through writing and public speaking
Knowledge of electric cooperative structure
Knowledge of electric utility terms
Ability to coordinate with others in working, consulting or advisory capacities
Above-average photography skills
Strong organizational skills
Knowledge of electric load management and demand-side management, the economics of various fuel sources, electric safety, renewable energy and electrical codes
Strong multi-tasking capability
Strong Microsoft Office capabilities
Minimum seven (7) years’ experience in customer service/member services or event planning.
Preference given for experience at an electric or telephone cooperative.
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field.
