The Ohio Policy Evaluation Network (OPEN) conducts rigorous, impactful, and forward thinking social-science research on the reproductive health of Ohioans. Our multiple interdisciplinary research projects assess reproductive health outcomes, equity, access, cost, and autonomy in the context of federal and state laws and policies. The team is comprised of faculty, staff and students from multiple universities and institutions across the state. OPEN seeks to hire a Research Communications Associate who will work from the Ohio State University main campus in Columbus.
The Research Communications Associate will be expected to:
- Report to the OPEN Principal Investigators at Ohio State University and University of Cincinnati to plan, coordinate, and manage all communications and network-development aspects of OPEN projects and operations. - Develop and/or deliver OPEN research communications and network-development activities related to: research findings, community engagement, stakeholder engagement, policy-relevant communications, and translation of research findings. - Work with the OPEN Communications Core director and carry out strategic planning for communications. - Work with OPEN Network Core director and carry out strategic planning for network development. - Draft or edit op-eds, research briefs, press releases, research summaries deriving from OPEN research studies. - Act as liaison with media outlets, including strategizing and operationalizing communications beyond traditional media outlets. - Prepare OPEN team members for media engagement (preparing talking points, summarizing and contextualizing findings). - Design (or work with designers to create) and manage website content; infographics from research findings. - Lead quick responses to opportunities for OPEN research to be useful for policy. - Track website usage and measure impact of OPEN research in network and communications. - Act as liaison with offices of university government relations and university communications. - Act as liaison to faculty and organizations inquiring about OPEN research and communicate with the OPEN network via newsletter. - Assist Program Manager to plan and implement events and activities (team meetings, conferences) organized by the OPEN team.

Master’s degree in science or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidate should have at least two years of related experience in the communications field, and at least two years of related experience working with Adobe design products, Microsoft Office, and WordPress or other web hosting software. Candidate should have experience carrying out research, writing about research, and communicating about research. Candidate should have experience interacting with multiple sites or projects at once. This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong networking, outreach, and community relation skills. Candidate should have desire to advance public health knowledge in Ohio and be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of reproductive health landscape in Ohio or similar states.
Experience in public health or reproductive health fields.
Target Salary: $48,000.00 - $56,971.00 Annually
